Do you mind being harnessed?
Do mills reduce your power?
Can you romp and play and tease
When toiling all those hours?

Is your soft whisper “freedom”
To those beyond its reach
Does your touch give comfort?
Is it patience that you teach?

Against cloudless, azure sky
A falcon’s flight is viewed
When he is recalled to gloved hand
Does that bother you?

You offer lift to his wings
Enabling him to soar,
Then he waits in sightless hood -
That’s something you abhor?

As you touch mountain meadow
A stag breathes warily
Hoping you’ll expose the dangers
That he cannot see

But when warning is too late -
Watching his body fall,
Do you mourn a regal beast
Reduced to rack on wall?

When your breezes stir the coat
Of tiger in the cage
As he paces back and forth
Do you absorb his rage?

Do you hear him question why
Captivity occurs
Or are you fooled with everyone
By his placid purrs?

Do you gasp with disbelief
When struggling silver flash
Becomes another trophy
In a fisherman’s cache?

Do you listen when a man
So fine’s made to feel small?
Are you too busy making noise
To hear sighs at all?

Does your touch upon a soul
Enable us to cope?
Do you promise better days?
Perhaps you offer hope?

Do you still whisper “freedom”
To those beyond its reach?
If we knew how to listen
What is it that you’d teach?

Oh dear lady..
this made me want to run outside and stand waiting for the wind to whisper to me.
You have outdone yourself with this write..
Straight to my library it goes!
Hugs~

Yep, you've outdone yourself with this.
I know I'll be spending more time listening to the wind from now on... definitely!
Wow, this really is a stunning write.

oh lady this is incredible...it speaks for poetic perfection when a poem is so full of lines to quote that one is hard pressed to pick a fav.... sigh....if only I could write this well....I just love this....and you know comment comes from one who hates the wind...I just cannot abide the wind on my skin....but I do love to read your words to it...sigh...gives me a compassion for the wind I never before had.....*smile*
*here's wishing the wind blows breath into your muse more often* *smile*

Laura, this is gorgeous.....simple but deep and beautifully balanced, as your poems most always are...one of your best, in my less-than-humble opinion.

You made magic with your hands, turning
them to anything, and making anything
turn into a present that has taken me into my
future.

Enchantress: I love the image your response gave me... can see your hair blowing! *S* Thank you so much!!!

Toerag: Thank you, my friend. *S* Knowing you like means a lot to me. *S*

GG: You never know what you might hear. *S* Thank you very much! *S*

Sunshine: Why thank you, ma'am! *S*

Seymour: I'm usually struggling against the wind instead of letting it blow me where it will... guess it got its revenge by making me write of it! LOL Thank you! *S*

jellybeans: Why am I not surprised that you picked my favorite part? *S* You also proved that the o & o's are friends with many differences... for I love the wind (unless it's blowing sand in my face! LOL) Thank you so much... for here and before. *S*

Corinne: Thank you so very much, kind lady! *S*

Martie: You honor me with the keeping... and I thank you so much! *S*

iliana: Thank you so much for that seeing... *S* Part of this has existed since high school... it started growing and wouldn't stop. *G* I'd hoped the wind pulled it together. *S*

Ratleader: Don't ever humble your opinion, my friend... it matters too much. *S* Thank you so very much... even if your comments are too kind, I'll take 'em! LOL

Edder: That feeling is mutual, my friend... Thank you! *S*

Balladeer: There can definitely be too much of some good things! LOL Thank you so much... for the compliments and the chuckles. *S*

JM: Which one? LOL Thank you very much, kind lady... I am honored and touched by your return visit. *S*

PS: I'm glad! *S* Thank you so much! *S*

Bal: ROFLMAO... You just couldn't resist, right? LOL You'd really laugh if you knew how many titles were rejected. *G*

LeeJ: What a wonderful response... Thank you so very much! *S*

My, oh my! What an impassioned write! I was so into it, I kept reading faster and faster!
If you are able to harness the wind, please ask those questions on behalf of all of us and then write a poem on the answers given!

Big hugs for a terrific write, my friend!

perfect title, methinks!  Well done, reaches many a gamet.
