standing on a shadow's lace

It Would Never Be Enough

it wouldn’t be enough
for me to just love you a little
my heart couldn’t take it

I would have
to give you
all I have
and am without
withholding anything

freely on you
I could be liquid
and pour to
every crease
you had
in a daily
anointing celebration

at night
I would
watch you
and lay between
your breaths
and lean
into pores
of skin
so tight

where you become
my dreams
and waking moments
cling closely

but distance is
a hollow whisper
and it’s echo
screams in my heart

you ask me if I loved you
I do
but I can’t love you a little
it just wouldn’t be enough
