Atop a hill a flame doth burn temptation's sweet allure, and the smoke rises up, infiltrates the atmosphere, and turns the blue and beautiful into a hazy view uninviting to my eyes like dead and dying trees. It’s winter now where once the rain held the flame at bay and brought the new and delicate forward and upright to stand like a beacon in the view of humble beings as a sign and symbol, token, of life’s deep mystery. But the flame; how it burns and makes a person yearn for the discovery and feel of another’s inner world and a mind rises up, infiltrates beyond the veil, and brings back to earth the knowing of it all. And the delicate and new once considered meaningful sinks beneath the surface of a person’s conscious view and watches from the sidelines the wanderings in smoke and the reaching blind response of the love deprived. It’s winter now, flames burn, and I turn from the view strong, secure, but saddened at how goodbye can feel when it turns my blue and beautiful into hazy memories and closes my mind to a once most treasured dream. And sad is passing through on its way into the past erupting and exploding like rocks and lava, fire, but the silence of the dead in love prepared the way for no surprise to rock the foundation of my worth. But too they cannot know how the expected hurts, how the death of hope changes landscapes, sea, and me, and sends me hibernating into the tried and failed but constant reminder of the futility of dreams. That’s it – I’m out of here, or there, or wherever, to formulate new rules and contemplate new views! Helen |
