Making Peace With Yesterday

I'm partial to the hours when I can dream in solitude
Awaiting numbness to absorb this grief-like mood
I lie with the urge to forget and allow it to share this bed
Body curled in the same contour as the half moon overhead...

I take the nighttime's state of mind and walk with the day
A little helpless, a little lifeless, a little breathless, I stay
If only the morning's sun hadn't burned it's way through the sky
My face wouldn't feel the path these tears so heavily ride...

I have no where to run from last night's wind
And, God, the waters are to shallow to hide myself in
I am so exposed to the heartache and it's kind of way
I'm without strength for making peace with yesterday...

I can't be still with the will that I'll someday see
When the rain has soaked all desire remaining in me
A thousand miles I must have worn now below my feet
Just hoping that scared death and I never meet...

Somewhere in all this the darkness has become my friend
And, I lean on it's energy to shelter me over and over again
It's the faith in the race to touch familiarity when I pray
Here, in grip for dear life in making peace with yesterday...

If making peace with yesterday would leave me just like before
If it's journey could salvage myself once more
If making peace with yesterday is my reward I'll earn
Then, I will fear not in the lesson's I've had to learn...

Saunni,
======================================
If making peace with yesterday would leave me just like before
=====================================
I've grown to believe the grief without growth is sorrow without purpose. So I believe that making peace with yesterday will leave you better than before. But that's just me. I do so enjoy your writing dear friend. Peace.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Saun,

Your writing has always touched me, but this especially did...

"Somewhere in all this the darkness has become my friend
And, I lean on it's energy to shelter me over and over again
It's the faith in the race to touch familiarity when I pray
Here, in grip for dear life in making peace with yesterday..."

It's amazing what you do with words and feelings...as always I stand in awe.
Take care my friend,
Amy
