Powerless

I know you can't hear my thoughts,
something I am grateful for
as I watch the body sag in pain and
see the soul rising in your words
of tomorrow, that are keeping you for now.

I am powerless, walking in your shadow
addicted to the invisible of you,
that which others don't see and I find
that I am missing in you already.

I listen to your suffering, standing still
beside you, allowing you the dignity needed,
closing off my need to reach out, later
to set forth in words when alone.

How does one get use
to feeling numb on the outside
while inside there are flashbacks, blending
the burden of feelings yet to come?

I am tied and bound to you...
waiting for you to be set free.

This makes me think of my Mother and how it felt as I watched her leaving me. Such sorrow.

It doesn't get much more painful than this...
I felt your sadness straight to my heart.

This is a hell of a question, one which
doesn't come with an easy answer I'm
afraid, that answer being you don't. but it's so good to see you
writing this out!
