This is a borrowed photograph -- the wild plum trees which have suddening appeared in our back yard (within the last three years) have begun to produce fruit. Up until this year, we had thought these wild shrubs were weeds! Spring blossomed Prunus. May displayed orange plum marbles Now ripening fruit. Dixie -- thanks! These little trees, which really look more like bushes, are kind of unusual to be growing this far south. The fruit looks like cherries; it's the color of a cherry tomato almost and for the longest time we thought they were cherries because we never got to eat them (the birds got to them first). But recently, we've beat the birds to the bite and they are definitely plums. Very sour. But I think they will make great jelly. We also have a wild tomato plant growing. What's so unusual is that our lot is so small, you would never think we'd get wild growth here! |

Up here, they grow more like bushes, and are called sand hill plums. Jelly and jam...yes! Oh, the fun you are going to have! |

Karilea, thank for your "yummy" post! I am going to try it and I think I might add a little jalepeno. Have you ever had jalepeno jelly; it's great! ![]() |

jellies and jams... hmmm yummy I use my neighbors grapes to make mine. I always wanted fruit trees but we are so close to so many orchards that it is easier to just pick them there. Nicely done, Jo! Maureen |

Maureen, you're a sweetie. Thanks for posting. What's so amazing about this is that we live on a very small lot in the city -- this little miracle has lifted me so much, you just wouldn't believe it! ![]() |

iliana, Yes, I noticed! Gorgeous. You'll have to tell me how... Still, your poem would hold its own without the complement of a picture. Sadie |
