It is a fact of life; all old fat white men with long gray hair and beards look alike. I have no doubt this is what half the world's mistaken identities are all about. Though men in general are pretty much interchangeable, still, it is remarkable that a man my size so easily can walk through the world, totally transparent to almost all human eyes, and I really think it's only humans because animals seem always to know when I'm around, even if I never make a sound they mostly want to put their nose, or paw, or fang, or claw, somehow on my skin and look at me with eyes that connect directly to my soul. Humans don't do that ever, well alright almost never, they turn away, eyes fade to glaze, it doesn't faze me anymore; I learned young most people act like that when they are confronted with the fact of fat. I suppose its good that I grew up alone; it made me self reliant, knowing most people didn't want me in their sight; it was one of two things that really made me love the night; once I had grown I learned to sell it as a skill. As if by some divine call, all I had to do was realize by simple force of will, that with the proper attitude I wasn't seen at all. ©2004 by icebox |

Something else we share...I'm made in an altogether different shape, but the disappearing is in my genes too. Maybe it's a facet of the growing up alone that does it. When you're alone and don't mind it much, you don't need to be visible, so why bother? The downside is that sometimes when I want to be seen, I'm not there at all. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

I've always been told that animals were a good judge of character... thinkin maybe there's truth in that. |

Strange as I always look into the eyes of the person I am glancing at first. Like your twinkling kind eyes...think I told you about that before. ![]() ~Smiles & Hugs, Nancy~ *I must try to use a font that can be read easier. Thank you for bringing it to my attention* ~Somewhere in my heart I'm always |

There is something about the poem that touches everyone. As for disappearing in a crowd, because I was always taller than most my age, I wished I could disappear because it drew a lot of bullying when I was young. Whether we are too short, too tall, too fat, too thin -- people can be cruel. I always felt more comfortable with animals, as well. ![]() |

I understand the feeling. Being ina crowd and no one sees you. Since I'm a shy, quiet person people do not notice me. But my furry kids sure do know how to greet folks. I think my puppy would open the door to a burgular and say come on in. So glad you came to see me. Good Jobber Ice BonBon ![]() |

really, this touched me... I have always been average, 123 pounds 5'5" some would say that's thin. I never had to deal with being fat...and now in my job, I am the center of attention...I see hundreds of people a day...(working at a gated community with over 600 families, their relatives, friends, people working on their houses...) I get looked at and "hit on" all the time...people stop and talk to me every minute of an eight-hour shift... it gets tiring. But hey...I need that somehow...at least for now. |
