the most common human emotion,
even with all my friends
at a party of near hundred,
it manages to creep up,
the back of my neck
into my ear
through my head
down my throat
to my chest
and grabs my heart with thin, icy, fingers.

I understand the priests now,
its not the celibacy,
rather the lack of
perfume on the pillow beside me,
a warm hand behind my head,
softness contrasting my hardness,
clutter to fill spartan space,
transducer:
rage, anger, aggression
to
love;

and a resigned sigh ushers in
silence.

I, too, think sometimes, it's better not to entertain the dreams of what might never be.

But only sometimes.

More often I think, what the hell else have I got to do?
