Long Shadows

During times of long shadows
cast on grasses burnt
by a dripping sun,
I see myself walking, wandering
down paths that lead me…
and I follow.
Reminiscent of those shadows pushed
from substance in reality
mirrored at root to leaves
held and caressed
by breezes born of spirit-
truths told by old men
to those not so much so-
and when shadow meets shadow
at the final falling,
I will have walked the full length
of long shadows from root
to capillary.
