Never close enough

Criminal Domestic Violence is one of the fastest, yet most unrecognized crimes in our country today. It's sad to read the paper, or turn on the news to see that another woman has been beaten, cut, stabbed or even worse... killed at the hands of someone that was supposed to love and protect her.My mother was in a relationship for many years where she was abused each and everyday.Somehow I followed into her footsteps and chose the same kind of man (history repeating itself I assume). It took me 9 years to finally get out and make another life for me and my babies.I celebrate each and every time one of these monsters are charged, and found guilty.  I feel as if we are one step closer to winning the battle that will ultimetely win the war.
Criminal Domestic Violence has to STOP!!
We need to teach our daughters, sisters, gran-daughters and friends to use there voice and get out of a violent relationship before its too late to look back and change the path that they walk.I wrote this poem in honor of ALL women that have (or are) living this lifestyle!!

************

To live in fear of waking, or even falling asleep.
To not know where you're going, or what seeds tommorrow will reep.

To flinch at every up turned hand, and shake at the sound of a voice,
To know that slowly you're dying, but simply having no other choice.

To cover the black and blue, and smile beyond the pain,
To live and breath, lie then die, with nothing more to gain.

To hold your shame and hide your life behind whatever excuse you make,
To know that this is your bed...and that sooner or later he'll wake.

To watch your life spin out of control, yet hang suspended, lost and alone,
Hanging onto his words, then 911 on the phone...

To many have been before you, and even more didn't live to tell the story,
Of heavy hands, cuts and bruises...and even more, thats much to gorry.

Get out while you still have breath to scream "NO, NOT ANYMORE"
Run for the life that you deserve, get out and bolt the door.

Stand up for not just you, but for those that lost the choice...
To live a life without the violence...
You still have a choice!!

Life is something that happens when you can't get to sleep.
