icebox, Yes but no.  If one is numb how can one love?  The bitter taste of past mistakes and past bad times must always be the springboard towards a better life and  a better point of view.  If we forget then I think we lay ourselves open for repetition and more wishes of "if only". But I may be reading this incorrectly.

I agree.  
When ever my grandfather would hear someone say I wish I had this or I wish I had that, he would always say: “Boy… wish in one hand and spit in the other, and see which hand fills up first!”  Of course he used other expletives along with spit; ones I can’t mention here.

I know wishing doesn't change things or make them happen, but for some reason, I do it any way.  I know my mother taught me on four leaf clovers when I was a child.
