* (For youngsters who never had the pleasure of the tool: pica-a typewriter type providing 10 characters to the linear inch and six lines to the vertical inch; Webster didn't say it, but on picas, you had to watch out for your fingernails getting caught underneath the keypads! Enough said. On with the poem!) Atypical Dream Written on Old Pica “Ah, my love, let me gaze into your eyes once more- What’s that, there’s something green floating around?” Retype that. Make-up artist, where are you?" “Ah, my love, let me gaze into your green eyes wants more” Typo. (You know he “wants more”, but don’t let the audience know.) Corny as it may seem Staged live my dreams at age sixteen. Emotions dramatically spoken While peck, peckity of pica unbroken. Seriously, the romance and adventures were more convincing than that, All except the background noise of the typewriter’s tap tap tap Dreams recorded themselves as the plot unfolded with expedience, almost at speed of light the instant they were quoted. Word swirls flew upon the paper. Strangest feeling achieved by those age sixteen dreams: One could be the actor, writer, costumer, Typist, and director simultaneously. Since the computer, no longer do I dream in pica. No more pecks. No more taps. Earth Angel, Believe it or not, this really happened! Probably because i was trying so hard to break the record of "sixty words a minute" in the typing class! (60 wpm-can you believe that???) How fast do people average of keyboards, I wonder. Does anybody know ? |

Martie, It delights me that this crazy poem gave you delight! Thank you for responding. Sade TD, You flatter me so. If you were to meet me on the street, I'd appear to lack humor. I rarely show it unless it's with people whom I'm VERY comfortable or with children. That's what I like about Pip-you can be yourself or anyone you want to be. Thanks again. McGroves, And the typos! We were only allowed two or three mistakes to pass. They had to be erased perfectly by erasing pencils-they couldn't tear too much of the paper grain. Times do change. Thank you for your wonderful comment. Sadie |

Seriously, the romance and adventures were more convincing than that, All except the background noise of the typewriter’s tap tap tap reassuring and finding the good and knowledge learned.
