Ducks all lined up in a row This stay home mother has to go The dog is walked to water grass Kids are fed and off to class Anxious in this venture new I put on the perfect business suit Under doormat goes the key The teenager arrives at three The house is still, the lights are low The dog peers out the front window Quickly adjust the driver's seat I'm soon to contribute to the GNP Walking in the door, finally feeling free Balancing career and being mommy of three Tidying my desk, and arranging all the things I take a deep breath, and the cell phone rings "Hi, Mrs. Johnson? This is your son's school. It seems your kindergartener may have the flu. He's feverish and has an upset bowel. You need to pick him up right now." Ducks aren't all lined up in a row And this working mother has to go I call the boss and find relief And go home to be with my family After 11 years of staying home, today was to be my first day in the career world. My entire family has been so anxious and happy...and my perfect first day has been a slap of reality, as I had to "miss" work due to an illness of my middle child. It figures! Hope my potential employer still wants me tomorrow! |
