The Liberty Bell By Paul Wilson It began around midnight with no warning at all The wind started to howl and the rain began to fall A storm of this magnitude I could not recall The black ocean was whipping up waves thirty feet tall The shroud of darkness hid us from our watery grave As our tiny boat was being tossed from wave to wave The young crew thou in-experienced was very brave As the captain I prayed all of their lives I could save For two days we fought the raging storm with all our might Alone on the wave tossed ocean with no help in sight Tired and weary unable to continue the fight One of the crewmembers was swept overboard last night Today we got a break the storm began to subside We were ready to get off this roller coaster ride We tried sending a message but the radio was fried I had to keep it from the crew so to them I lied I told them it wouldn’t be long, help was on the way All we had to do was just hang on one more day This hurricane we had beaten, a monster called Fay The morning sun welcomed us as we watched dolphins play Captain Bill… come quick come quick the mate began to yell We have a problem his voice sounded scared I could tell Something knocked a hole in our boat the Liberty Bell I said fear not…we’ll be saved from this watery hell About that time on the horizon I saw a light Help was on the way at last we would be saved this night I rang the bell and called for the crew with all my might Now saved we watched the Liberty Bell sink out of sight "To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you" [This message has been edited by Paul Wilson (04-15-2004 02:52 PM).] |

Wow! This had me at the edge of my seat the whole read through! Loved this story, reminds me of my days in the USCG in the Gulf on the love of my life: Point Sal 82352. I hope you have more like this on Captain. JL |

JL...So glad you enjoyed this little story. I really appreciate your reply. This just came to me to from out of the blue today while thinking about all the hurricanes that have came into the Gulf. In my poem it was the USCG that came to the rescue even thou I failed to mention it. Where were you stationed on the Point Sal? "To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you" |

Paul, Your muse has been very enthusiastic to spark this beauty! It flowed so perfectly that I wondered if it were non-fiction-it was to real to be contrived. Great job! Sade |

Dixie... I'm glad you think so. Thanks to people like you and your thoughtful reply I always try my best. Glad you enjoyed...Paul iliana...I really appreciate your reply. When I first started reading and writing poetry I would read others poems that told a story and I told myself that's how I want to learn to write and I really try hard to make my poems into a story, so your reply really means alot to me. Thanks...Paul "To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you" |

Paul...this was an amazing story...love the ocean, it's richness in depth, it's serene and embracing calm which hypnotizes, even her moods of fear, anger, tears and great reminder of human nature and all purpose... I would love to sail the ocean the rest of my days, if God granted me a wish...brings out the best in me...as your write just did. Marvelous...thank you for sharing. |
