Oh why dost love tempt thee-
with such an unloving desire;
that by grace these eyes can see,
yet is such, I can't acquire?

For love is to a distant star,
as this heart, is to a dreamer-
who searches for passion so very far,
yet in vanity he must endure.

For love forever, may grace his eyes,
yet to a dreamer, love has never felt,
that shown so brightly 'neath these skies,
nor in this heart, has never dwelt!
