A Tight Spot

The hammering
has become second nature
to me lately, with each tack
taking away a thought
of what will be gone tomorrow
and me wondering
who will get to enjoy my offering,
once she is gone.

Will it be a gift
to be cherished by another?
Or a reminder of the last of times
when a worn chair becomes like new
and a human life becomes more worn.

I wonder if my time would be better spent
in real touching, instead
of bringing a smile to one
who has waited too long
for me to accomplish a promise
seen to the finish.

My back aches,
my stomach churns
as the deadline nears
and I would rather be rathering
than tacking alone with my thoughts.

I wish I could undo in life the negatives
as easily as I can remove my poor hits
that angle occasionally in my weakness
"darning" my words, especially when fingers
get in the way of tight spots.

But I know she waits with anticipation,
and that the look on her face
will be worth all the aches and pains
of the days ahead.

M

Wow ... the chairs look spectacular Maureen.  You've woven an amazing poem surrounding this task. I loved the flow, the pondering and anticipation you've captured within. Well done on all counts, including the chairs. I hope they will be appreciated!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Thanks, Kit..it is one of a pair of antique butterfly chairs that I should have had done a few years back, but cost way too much for  someone else to do...so I have decided to redo them myself, having them stripped of the old stain etc...sanded to look smooth and restained and sealed to protect their detail.
I have been working on my sister's for over 2 weeks now...first taking all theold  crumbling stuffing and fabric off...and am about to work on it's front, then seat..then complete it's trim.

When it is done, she will finally have hers and then I will begin on mine.

Thanks, Marge. I guess you could say it is a labor of love...

well, I just called her and I am going to do the "rathering" with her for a few hours.

for understanding me Marge..(it took me 2 hours to find a site that allows  loading and  sharing of pictures...I almost contacted you

You have more willpower than me Maureen!  I tried to redo an old leather chair of my Grandmother's a while back, and wound up surrendering it to someone else to finish, lol.  Good for you for staying with it!  Someday I'll try again, and I'm tucking this link away to give me some inspiration when the time comes.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

Maureen~
Well, the place you found is the place I would have sent you ...
but it would have only taken minutes, not hours~
Next time ... don't hesitate~

Happy Easter celebration to you and yours~

That (or should I say - this) my friend, in my estimation, is the best thing I've ever read by you, and I've read some wonderful pieces you've penned.  This was an awesome write!  Mucho bow's from me...
