Know It All He was sittin’ upon that old porch swing. Pipe in one hand, a cup of steaming hot coffee in the other. Lines stamped upon his face that had been weathered from the heated sun. His grandson sitting in silent obeisance. Soaking in his every word of tales of the past. Well kiddo Nothing worse then a know it all. They sure can lead you a merry chase with their uppity ways. They come on strong knowing all there is to know. A young city man came to town driving an a u t o m o b i l e. His name was Ford, the car a Model T. Well sir. Elmer he was a man who knew all. Said that dumb contraption would never take the place of a good horse. Look at us now kiddo. A speedin’ down cross-country highways. Now then there was those Wright brothers Orville and Wilber. Always a tinkerin’. Wilber he had a bad heart had to take it easy alot of times, a gentle soul, died at the tender age of 45. Now folks said those boys where crazy only birds are meant to fly. Look at us now kiddo. Travelin’ the speed of light and a goin’ to Mars. I guess kiddo what I’m a tryin’ to say is ...... You say you want to write. But folks a keep a puttin’ you down, a sayin’ it’s a waste of time, you ain’t got no talent. Well kiddo you pay no a mind. Reach for that dream kiddo. You may become the next Dan Webster, now there is a story. Well kiddo you better hurry on home. Your mama is a waitin’ supper. See ya tomorrow and we’ll talk about ole Dan and how he came about a writin’ that dictionary you love so much. Night kiddo. Love Bon-Bon |
