Punishment?Snub or slur
However easily fitting?
You raided my heart, did you know it?
Of course you did!
But it wasn’t me
No sir, it was retrospect from the past
Quite frankly, I loved it
I loved you, the adventure of your voice in the dark
And you knew it, I can hear you now
Vain and forefinger strumming that broad
Forehead, large hands elaborated, to gloss opinion
You’re a slaveholder, do you know that?
My heart collected any food it could easily find
Payment for a time long ago
Stunning natural talent, decided to fall afoul
I grabbed for the rabbit
Good liquor, now a days comes hard
How long has it been, a year, three?
Outbuildings idle a miracle of Wedgwood and silver
Eating my life from a word
One word from you, working my thumbs
Lending dignity to recent habits
I turned the dial on the radio
To a careening tune, fighting off deer tics
Harshly rhythmic, but well suited?
That’s life my dear, its subtle little runs and fills
Muting any music
Did you see me as sin?
Or
Perhaps dark rich green, soft as cream
Licking your lips…your mouth…your soul
All those Caesar Salads certainly took their toll
I wonder if even then, Wendy was near
Maybe even before, perhaps, I was a wood filler
I’ve borrowed a note and put the flute aside
Setting off on some opposing track
Away from the nights
Where day meets darkness
In case you’ve ever wondered
I’m planting hours
However, altogether, I’d say, we danced
For a little while…among some absent minded song
You loved me, as much as practically possible
In that space and time of the
Phantom of the Opera
Somehow, Dances with Wolves,
Will never sound the same!

Too many great lines to quote. Wow, spiralling snippets of a relationship that made its mark.

Lee, this is beautiful, even if it does hurt.
These lines especially touched me.

That was quite a journey you just took us on! I could envision ~ and feel! ~ the whole relationship scenario! ~ and yes, dear lady with the soul of a poet and with the talent to match, your dignity is most definitely "restored".
