Retrospect

They told me I was special,
A diamond in the rough,
But special didn't matter
And diamonds weren't enough.
Searching for tomorrow
I found out how it ends.
Loyalties are fragile
And none of you are friends.
Our journey wasn't traveled,
This road was never crossed.
The future was forgotten
And yesterday is lost.
Everything is fading.
These people come and go
And in the darkest moments
True colors start to show.
Everyone is phony,
A product of one place
And though their masks are different
I see a single face.
Then as they seek acceptance,
They follow mass appeal
But all I see is shadows,
Illusions that aren't real.
Everybody's different.
They're slowly leaving me.
But that's the price of progress,
A simple tragedy.
So nothing lasts forever,
No way to reunite,
And everything I fought for
Are now the things I fight.
But I will not be bitter
And I won't reminisce,
Just take these words of wisdom
And please remember this:
Goodbyes can be painful
A poison to your breath
But silence can be fatal...
Leading friendships to their death

well if that isnt the truth nothing in this world is

Can you hear my cries, can you hear my pleads, will you watch me burn...or would you bleed for me?

Hard hitting, speaks hard hearting...and the true treasure is in the reverence of our own worth.
When the world grows cold, warmth can be found in a smile on the soul.
Write it out.

Are you well ventilated now? LOL, this one topped what a friend of mine could write, someone so cynical and grumbly even a Grinch would run off with his ears covered.
DS, I enjoyed this write, it helped release some early morning frustrations.

There were way too many outstanding lines to focus on one or even a couple..

Excellent topic, message and rhyme.

Do some more..
