We Chose to Love Truly it was our choice; we chose to love to give our voice We loved each other it was true; I loved me and you loved you. A bond for two there could not be with you loving you and me loving me. The object of our rapt devotion was great enough to fill an ocean. Yet perfect care and rapt attention would fall too short would fail convention. Drawing each to joy untold was not a thing we could behold. For love, though powerful, could not surpass the rift we placed, the great crevasse. For loving you and loving me for each self could fill the sea. Unity could not be found in how we made our world go round... and round, and round! ©April 3, 2004 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

I did not love by choice at first it was completely on its own but years passed by and made me cry so I choose to love rather than be alone |

Virginia Wondering here, because to my way of thinking...to love yourself makes it easier to be loved and to love another. Enjoyed this very much! |

Yes, Martie, we need to love who we are before we can manage to truly love somone else...the love here, within this poem, is a narcissistic type of love...a selfish love. It's the "whatever makes me FEEL good kind of love, me first." I think that kind of love is the kind that ultiimately destroys relationships unless both members of it learn how to put the best of the other first. So many different kinds of emotions are tied up in the single English word of "love." Ah, to know for certain the kind of love of which one speaks. Greek here would do wonders for us all. Glad you all have liked this one. Hope the form of love was understood. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |
