So,
death and taxes
that's the choice?
I don't recall having a voice in this implied agreement.
Form 1040 needs a check box,
or perhaps a peel off toxic substance,
so I could elect death over taxes
then I might believe,
deep in my heart,
it really is all for the best;
at least for the most part I would believe,
that,
and all the other crap I've ever heard
from all the rest of those
with whom I've shared a simple slice of time.
You see,
first I should have told you that I don't believe in god.
The idea of an old white guy sitting on a golden throne
seems a little odd to me
and it always has;
the Universe is not just big
it's bigger than the human mind can grasp,
even at my last gasp I won't believe one of the supremes
would choose our existence to be carved in HIS image
and then stick us way out here,
on the butt crack side of nowhere,
so far out
that we can never get to any of the places
where we could meet real players and share ideas
and maybe recipes,
crack a couple of cold ones
or pass around a bottle in an old brown paper bag.
It makes me gag to think that some kind of god forgot
to have a front porch on this back country planet,
with a beat up old sofa on it next to a dead refrigerator;
if we are so much like him (or she or it),
whomever,
they would have cared enough
to put us more in the center where the high priced action is.
I mean really,
have you ever done the math;
do you think those little points of light are just for entertainment
when the cable's out,
or for witchy post new age women
to have something to ask about
besides, "Please pass the BeerNuts?"
But I suppose it should be enough
to be content with a god in my image
you know,
chewing on a Slim Jim,
just a little out of focus by the time the sun goes down.
Maybe it really was a clown like that
who rang the OO-RAH bell
and dumped life on this half frozen half molten ball of dust,
and if you can go with that,
and still buy the house a round,
then by all means
you can still jump up and down
and be proud you're one of us.

icebox

This strikes me as a good way to write on this particular Friday, since after much procrastination I'm fiddling with tax stuff.  Thank you!

Can I buy you an arctic brew?
An enjoyable April Friday night read.
I'm only laughing cuz I got some $$ back and can afford a six pack of any brand I choose.

ice-boy, I figure if I can believe in remote-control color TV, then I can believe in anything. So I do. And not being one to put off the inevitable, in the hopes that I'll die before I have to, I did my taxes and paid the bill in January.

Enjoyed your thoughts her ice.
