I've written poems for other men before and likely will again. It's not macho for men to dedicate poems to men directly, and I've never done that. This time there's no need to, because everyone in PIP will know who this is for. Godspeed, friend. Godspeed. Of Wasps And Roses They’re blooming somehow, why, I’ve no idea. It’s certainly not my doing, in fact I killed them. I didn’t learn in time, and now borers have claimed my roses. Who would have thought a wasp could kill a rose? I pruned them hard and harder when I knew, but too late; the larvae have reached their hearts, and so this summer is their last. Still they blossom, in colors the same but somehow clearer now, as if they knew; as if they made each bud, each leaf, with special care because it could be the only one, a beauty void of hope perhaps but beauty nonetheless. There’s no response, no action I can take. It is a simple thing and I know this fall I can replace them, but some day, if prayers exist or wishes can be answered, I would ask for this: that when the wasp of time plants a final larva in me, I might be given such a gift, the grace to bloom while dying. |

Ed You've touched the tears, my friend. This is so beautiful, because of where it came from. |

Deeply moving. A secret place high atop the forest hills and valleys touched by all you have been and content to be all that you are. |

A write like this requires the combination of immense talent, unique vision... and a heart big as the universe. I'm so glad you're blessed with all three. Through tears I type... this is magnificent! |

"I would ask for this: that when the wasp of time plants a final larva in me, I might be given such a gift, the grace to bloom while dying." What man could ask for more, for himself or for a friend. Well done! |

"The grace to bloom while dying" Ed, Thank you dearly for this thought provoking and very beautifully written piece of work. Thank you so much, Michael The stars will shine when I am gone, the earth will turn on as before, the gulls, still race along the shore, the morning star, still kiss the dawn [This message has been edited by Sunshine (03-30-2004 02:17 PM).] |

I'm new here at PIP, therefore I do not know who this lovely poem was meant for but it surely tells the heart. Deep and touching. Made me tear and swallow, hard just to keep from sobbing. Rene` |

Thank you for sharing this, Ed, it is a beautiful, soulful write. And men should write more often for men, it is a wholesome gift of friendship. |

Ed, how do you do it? This was written with such care, kindness, expression. Astounding as always... I'm so glad you didn't allow the macho part of you to not write this...bless you! |
