       Sunnyside up or scrambled,
Warm omelette made of cheese and ham, these
       Breakfast dishes fill hungry palettes;
Let's savor Dali's egg, if you please.

As if it had been cracked above midair,
Leaving no sign of plate, shell, or drip,
The naked embryo just hung there
Poised upon a string without a slip.

       Suspended in perfect balance
       Is a reddish plasmic pith,
       The essence of horizon's time;
       Frozen, poultry's monolith.

       That instant, the perfect stillness,
The swaylessness of the pendulum's string
May bring comfort and wonderment of how
He perfectly stopped moods alternating swing.

       Dali mastered the moment,
Perhaps giving us the egg laid
       By the golden goose.

I was fortunate enough to see a tremendous private collection of Salvador Dali's work.  One of his works has been haunting me for thirty years.  When I tried to find his work on a website, I was astonished to find that the artwork of which I speak was brushed in 1932, over seventy years ago.
This man was ahead of his time!

I loved this! Wonderful! I had the same thing happen to me with one of Picasso's work (Guernica)that I wrote a poem about in the last forum...isnt it amazing how some things just call to us begging to be addressed????

He was definitely ahead of his time...and a good egg!

This was flawless writing, sadelite. You captured it with words as perfect as his strokes....one to be proud of, for sure

(sigh) Oh Sadelite, this is beautiful, sweet friend, I am fascinated with all of Dali's work and find him to be a genius and truly had the pocketwatch with him! (big angel hugs) This is surreal, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sadelite, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Martie,

Thank you for your kind remark.  I'm very flattered to have, perhaps, captured some of his work in writing.   I'm glad you enjoyed it.  Thank you for taking time to comment.

Gadfly4you,

First of all, let me welcome you to Piptalk, a nice place to be.  We're glad to have you aboard!   As to your comment, you have me thinking back when I first saw a print of Guernica.  It was one of those moments like the assassin of President Kennedy that you knew exactly where you were when you first experienced it.  My fifth grade teacher, Mr. Bradley, put several Picasso prints above the backboard.  I remember falling into the art instead of my schoolwork!
Thank you for your response and bringing that warm memory back to life.

Balladeer,

I about fell off my chair when I read your comment.  Perhaps you remember giving me some much appreciated advice about meter when I first began to write.  I wrote about a metronome, as you might recall, forcing the rhythm.  I tried it, couldn't do it, put it aside and tried it again on this piece.
I wouldn't have had any idea how to put this together had not you taken several minutes of your time to explain it!   Thank you for having done this for me.

J.Samm,

I'm tickled that you found this vivid and entertaining.  I did have fun playing with words on this one-glad you liked it!

Noah,

I'm glad this caught your interest of surrealism.   I would love to know at what private gallery this hung in 1976.   A friend took me to a private corporation somewhere near Cleveland where probably a hundred or two of his works were displayed.  I tried to find out whether that private gallery in Cleveland with solely his work still exists.  Do you know what the name of the place is or if it still exists?

Thank you for your warm comment, Noah.  It is much appreciated.

I remember....and you certainly applied it here. The words flow like honey, completely unforced, smooth as can be and make it a pleasure to read. If I had any small part in it, I'm glad but your talent did the creating...keep it up!

Balladeer,
Are you trying to tickle me with a tear?
That is also very kind of you, Sir.  Happy writing to you.

passing shadows,
I'm glad this took you back to your college days.  I have been really busy this week and will try to catch your post tomorrow.  Thanks for commenting on this one.

Seymour,
You couldn't have said anything that caused my day to go any better!  My husband jumped when he heard my estatic scream after reading your response.  Finally, I wrote a good one!!!  Thank you for you kind and supportive words.
