A kite garden grows in the sky
With snapdragon flyers and latex lilies
In freedom with cotton string stems.

    Paisley leaves and searsucker sway
as Deltas whirl under new breath of wind.
         Alive, energized plants scuttle away
             ignoring gravity's trend.

Postage blossoms are framed and strung
                     to be delicately  sent airmail
While vibrant six feet hollow fish,
are gilled to the fill with air.

                             Rainbows twirl and tails spiral,
                           dive-dancing with flighty beat.
                        They snake, slithering new direction,
                      surfing fickle breeze.

                  Air is the foundation
             where these flowers stand.
          Roots are those who hold
      the flowers in their hand.

I’ve never seen this garden in Spring;
(It comes only in the Fall)
Whereupon the lawn of an air force base
Thousands of kites offer  the sky
    their  aerodynamic grace.

(I meant to put this in but had no room.  I've been dying to see this sight at Wright Patterson.  I understand that there ARE kites as small as a stamps and as long as fifty-feet (I think these are pulled by car.)Believe it or not, an instructor told me October has the best winds for kite flying-not March.  I'm not sure when this festival takes place.)

Thank you, Everyone, for your kind comments.

Paul,
Perhaps we have met.  I graduated from Wright State in 1978 and lived in Fairborne.  Small world, isn't it.  I'm glad you shared that info.  I've biked those roads on my ten speed (a crazy thing to do, I found out, as I ditched it in the middle of the road once).
Also, have sled on the "big hill" with lunch trays and inner tubes and jumped in 15 foot piles of leaves there. East Dayton holds memories. Nice to meet ya, neighbor.  We probably live about 40 minutes away from one and other.

Love it! Ekphrastic poetry has a special place in my heart, and this is a sweet example!
