The hardest thing to understand
Has not been academic.
But rather, what I thought I knew
turned 'round and made systemic.

An illness overtook took me;
They call it melancholy,
A disease of mind and spirit
And heart that's gone all hollow.

What has happened to my heart?
It was sacrificed most willingly
Upon an alter of the unknown,
Love -- divine insanity.

And spellbound 'tho you might have seemed
I'm not the girl that's in your dreams.
All the same, there is love,
A plague from Venus to train her doves.

iliana,

What has happened to my heart?
It was sacrificed willingly
Upon an alter of the unknown,
Divine insanity.

This sounds Aztec.  There's a lot one can read into this.  Hey, is there a full moon out tonight?  (It seems you and I are both
are moody... mine is better now.  Hope yours is too.)  As always, I enjoy your poem immensely.

Interesting, really liked the last verse.Gonna have to reevaluate my opinion of Venus. Entertaining write,I enjoyed.

Live like it's your last day...
Dance like nobody's watching...
Love like you've never been hurt...

bbent -- thanks very much for your comment and for reading.  I don't know much about Venus really.  I just know that love has played a few jokes on me, but that as a result, there is growth and expansion.  Someday, when I get my heart back, perhaps it will be fuller, wiser and more generous, who knows!   .......jo

Nice work!
Like this very much...
"Upon an alter of the unknown,
Love -- divine insanity"
So true in so many ways.

Muted, sweet lady -- I believe, too.  Really -- I just think that love evolves like everything else, maybe even more so and that someday I'll have a new one -- better than before!  Thanks for your post.   .......jo
