A handful of years back, I got the itch,
The elevated plateaus of sunset hives
Around garment lines, waist, my thighs.
Urticaria, I believe it is spelled
When from no apparent reason, the skin is swelled.

It’s not a big concern, but inconvenient at times,
To blotch neck and face without detect
Or for fingers to unpredictably swell in affect
From wearing wedding ring.
Last year, they cut off bands swollen sting.

Seldom do I have it anymore,
But under bandages it hid.
When I pulled off the bandaids, I couldn’t tell
How many cuts were of the doctors
Or of urticarea’s dwell.

So where can I pinch a little wisdom out of this flakey write?

"Under the skin, our stress arrives;
Many times, as under a bandaid,
put in hide."

           ~Sadie~

(and on hide, too!  Bad pun, I know...)
I hope no one has this cute little itch.  Thank goodness, I rarely do anymore!

I had no idea you suffered from this, too!  I've had it since I was in high school -- Mom used to say I just had the hives.  It didn't get really bad until I hit my 20s and saw a dermatologist who called it dermographism or something like it -- that means skin writing and he called it an allergy to applied pressure (but the other pressure makes it worse, as you know).  He put me on tetrocyclene and kept me on it for years.  It is exaccerabated by stress -- that is a fact -- Dr. Van Harlingen always told me that was my way of expressing Dad's asthma and hay fever.  Good write.  RELAX...also, I've found that if I putsomething cold against my skin, it helps sometimes.

I am relaxed.  It's when I go back to work that it will choose to set in if it does.  I've learned pretty much how to stay out of the way of those who stress me.  Thanks for the info. Forgive the topic.  I'm grasping at things to keep me writing!

noah and muted,
You have that right; Sometimes I've gone about happy as a lark, then realize I've been hiding loads of stress, and all of a sudden, Wham!  Poetry has been good for me-it brings out things I didn't even suspect.
Thanks for reading this.  I know the topic wasn't that great, but I try to post, regardless to keep the juices flowing.
Muted, I hope those itchies cease and you can put your hand down!  Have a good one!
