Poetry should be read slowly.
It can be shouted out in empty rooms,
or in elevators,
in the desert,
on the mountains,
or even in mindless crowds
so loudly the sound soaks to the bone,
but to be absorbed into the soul
it should be read alone
where awareness hides
inside the quiet understanding
of a single soul
stepping at least briefly
from humanity's surging tides.

So very true, icebox, but I'm wondering whether the stepping in is as brief as we would like to think.

Funny, but when I read yours it always has that effect. You're a great Rx for the noise in my life.

thanks for the refill

Good poetry, like any fine art, must be studied, felt and listened to by the heart and soul, no doubt about it.  Enjoyed this.

I tend to absorb the shouted words that only I can hear.

Oh absolutely!

Wonderful Ice..just wonderful

Beauty of the world which is soon to perish has two edges, one of laughter and one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder.
