Dither (dith’ er) a trembling or excited condition Mother Russia birthed her But she came here searching for golden streets Freedom then enslaved her Speeding along caught on the drug filled streets Exposing dance held her Till the new pealed meat did slowly wither From virus within her Take health, her friends, clothes and humble shelter, Only streets now held her See her buy crystal or ride the wild horse Empties out what’s in her Sends on an ever downward spiral course Passersby shun her Trembling in a dirty alley corner An insane dither Society’s freedom turns to scorn her, Can we now help her When we can not pave our own golden streets. No pleasant words We destroy ourselves in a way that offers highs, exalted images and then walks away from someone who needed more than a politician Like a tribe We welcome the politician Yet if we didn't We would have to invent them This is not to take away need or the feeling that destroys this is to say live as you can, as much as you can, but as you lived at home you will probably have to live here Dave |

A very stark write, Professor. Extreme images... matching an extreme life. Thank you for sharing all that you see out that window of yours. |

Had to send this up again. I've read it a couple of times and like it better each time. You see with your heart. Sadie |

This brought to mind a novel I read many years ago about immigrant women and the difficult time they had in this country. Good write, Gloom. |
