"I'm very sorry, Mrs. Toe"
I whispered with dismay.
"but I've been sent to tell you
That Toe passed away today."

"Oh, no!" she screamed. "What happened?
Did he have a heart attack?
An accident? Some jealous husband
Stab him in the back?"

"No, he died at the brewery.
An accident, I fear.
The platform broke and Toerag fell
Into a vat of beer."

"It was a silly accident.
The platform was unsound.
Before we knew what happened
Toe had fallen in and drowned!"

"At least, did he die quickly?"
Mrs. Toe asked quietly.
"I'd hate to think my husband
Had to suffer terribly."

"No, I'm afraid he didn't".
I replied, uneasily.
"Before he drowned poor Toerag
Had climbed out three times to pee!"

LOL Michael this ongoing banter is certainly great fodder for humour.

Well done once again!

Oh yes it is so true,
(This is Toerag's ghost)
And I died with such a smile
doing what I love the most.

Beer saturated body parts
Drowning in my brew
Getting out to pee three times
In Bally's blue suede shoes.

Heh heh!!  Good one 'Deer!
Hugs YOU!

Poetry is not an opinion expressed...
it is a song that rises from a bleeding wound
...or a smiling mouth.

Dear Balls of Deer, Toe was the consumate  gentleman right up to the end...

~ and I find some comfort in knowing that he died doing what he loved best.

Irish blessings to you both,

You know what I like most about reading your work Michael? I know, without fail, there will be a clever "catch" at the end. Whether somber or silly, it's there and makes me think, laugh (usually the case), sigh, etc.

Still grinnin'.
