Sweetest Flower What is this flower that’s known as death Whose petals wither much to soon Who draws the color from the flesh And leaves but bones to guard the tomb When you still breathe into my breath The very fragrance of your bloom What kind of night would leave the skies A portrait of their origin Where starless void in silence lies As though life’s waiting to begin Though you still touch me with your eyes And petal softness of your skin Who stole the flower of my delight And left it withered, limp and dead Who stole this night, this loveless night And left a darkness on my bed ‘Twas you, oh death, who doused the light Of little candles overhead But death cannot take from the earth The flowers that hold the greatest worth There is no death where there is love There’s no eternal dark above For life in love will e’re survive My sweetest flower is still alive! You may have written this for Martie, dear lady - But I'm borrowing it for the day... as I attend funeral services for a special lady... a neighbor, a professional colleague, and a friend of 30 years... Thank you, my dear friend... |

This is just beautiful Elizabeth, I can't begin to expresss just how beautiful. I'm keeping it Maree Beauty of the world which is soon to perish has two edges, one of laughter and one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder. |
