Like tufts of hair
caught on barbed wire,
tearing open the wild heart
reveals an inside fire;
in forward flight at full speed,
corraled roan does plaintively plead.

Don’t fence me in.

I am the free spirit
needing room to roam.
Wherever I go,
I am at home.
My roof is forever
the stars and blue skies,
I cannot thrive
in a world of disguise.

Don’t put a fence around my soul.
Don’t try to lasso my heart.

Don’t fence me in.

And some day I may
follow you
willingly.

Great advice for any person, Kacy!  But you, especially, I believe, have the courage to always be a free spirit!  Loved this poem!   ...jo

pictures of wild horses running through my head.

a fair warning in your verse. any free spirit can appreciate this.

through the ravages of sleeplessness lies the comfort of the night

A not too subtle warning, nicely and expressively made

Thought is was great

I can remember the original tune only thing is the name, but I think he sang Rawhide and Blazing Saddles amongst all the others

hey there, long time no see Midnight! thanks for visiting, yes, I was out with my daughter working with some horses yesterday, this phrase grabbed my memory attention, and out came this write

Dave, sometimes subtle isn't heard
LOL, that's a cowboy tune from the 40's or 50's, I remember hearing my dad sing it once or twice.

I ain't lookin' to block you up
Shock or knock or lock you up,
Analyze you, categorize you,
Finalize you or advertise you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

I don't want to straight-face you,
Race or chase you, track or trace you,
Or disgrace you or displace you,
Or define you or confine you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

Mr.Dylan
your poem reminds me thanks
