i remember when you told me
your grandfather was dying
awhile back
it didn't seem to phase you
it was something of a joke
when you said he didn't remember you
and called you strange names
we laughed for a bit
but today you cried softly
alone with your thoughts
you didn't let anyone in
then you whispered to me
he died
and you didn't know why you were crying
for the man who didn't remember you
that's when i said
when my grandfather died
i strung together broken memories
although i didn't know him well
i took everything i could remember
and thought of it then
i said it seemed like i knew him better
after he was gone
and looking back
the image of him i put together
is something i can say i miss
and the great man everyone talked about
at his funeral
made me wish i really remembered him
your grandpa may not have remembered you
that is perhaps the greatest loss
that he never knew the brilliant girl
the loving hands you have
the way your eyes change color with the seasons
the way you laugh under your breath
the way you dance with fate
and believe in nothing and everything at once
the half glances you throw at people
the way you adore music
alzheimers is tragic
i wanted to say to you today
that death should never be sad
because he lived a great life
i wanted to tell you that even though
he didn't remember you
for what it's worth
i remember you
and if someday i lose my memories
i will wish i had told someone this
when a disease causes someone to forget you
it is infinitely more important
that you remember them
i haven't seen you cry in a long time
and my inspirational babbling has no place here
because you are above all my gospel
every word i feed to those who hurt
is wasted on your ears
know that i still care for you deeply
and that i wanted to cry for your loss
but i wanted more
to cry for his
because he may not have remembered you
the way you are tired and so full of life
but you are still his pride and joy
beautiful the way that beautiful used to mean
before it was used up
and you are still the grandaughter
everyone wishes they have
and he might not know it now
but he will watch you
conquer the world someday
you cry for him because you didn't know him
i cry for him because he doesn't know you
so if you forget me tomorrow
know that it is infinitely more important
that i remember you
and for what it's worth
i do
i remember you

joy has its own justice. and dreams are languid and lawless. and everything bows to beauty, when it's fierce and when it's flawless...

I am filled with wonder

Beauty of the world which is soon to perish has two edges, one of laughter and one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder.

I have complete empathy with these words

I understand, but we are as we are and if we not, we are nothing

We watch, hear or understand, someone you care for slowly dying that rips the hell out of you

I dont myself know what was worse - standing on a doorstep to find my father was dying, or the worry of my mother who stayed awake on her 70th, in case she missed it, or my brother being found in someone's garden a couple of weeks ago

We make our own mistakes and live our lives as we can
