His name was Billy

the sky captured his azure eyes
and took them out to sea on a ride

but he'd never know
how beautifully they were
in reflection of stars above
or worlds below

he stopped knowing
the day his drunken daddy
drank one beer over the line

turning his hand into hammer
to fix a 2 year old's cries

Billy doesn't know much
or how truly special he is

just that rain makes him cry
pounding like nails all over him

deteriorated sight, he can
only surmise it is something
that stings, like bombs that
drop from the sequestered sky

but don't cry for Billy

because Billy doesn't know much

or how perfectly
the ocean view
mirrors his eyes

cry thou for his daddy
doing time, watching
windowed views behind
steel prison lines

painting stained glass pictures
siphoning the blue of sky

a haunting reminder
of sweet Billy's eyes

whoa, tragic....sad and beautiful, i think it's brilliant

joy has its own justice. and dreams are languid and lawless. and everything bows to beauty, when it's fierce and when it's flawless...

Oh goodness, Michele. I don't know what to say
about the subject. I will say that your telling
of it is excellent writing.

Well told...but oh so painful.

it is a song that rises from a bleeding wound

Very, very powerful. Brought tears to my eyes. While portraying such a sad story, you also portrayed your amazing talent. Extremely well written.

ooh this really hurts.... so sad

Beauty of the world which is soon to perish has two edges, one of laughter and one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder.
