down
the trodden
faithful road
wagon wheels
left ruts in mud
fossilized
a real rough ride
wishing bliss
imaginings
of appletrees
and bumblebees
gimme-back-my-bonnet-please
that damned sun is blinding me
the horses do not know my touch
biting at the bit.

bouncing
I am traveling
wrapping reigns
with callousness
sucking dust
between my teeth
drinking my own sweat from lip--

We've all had enough of this.

Yet I cracked the whip
with shout:
"H'yah!"
to horses wearying
passing bones
of "I supposed"
ignoring
all the signs
I drove
denying
all the things I know
denying
everything I've done,
creating ruts
for someone else...

pitying who follows me.

Hence "The Road less traveled...
          made all the difference."

Ruts get deep enough and one sees
precisely the road so thoroughly traveled

Better yet, think I will hack out my own path
good or bad surprise resides pon my own  shoulder

"High on the Mountain, where the Sun stil Shines, and the water runs a little lazy."

smiling at you me twin...
what you do with metaphors and imagery in this is pure poetry..but then you are.

Through the water ... through the rain ... to the soul of everything
Wash my heart out on the stones ... and I'm almost gone.

Had my wagon caught in a few of those ruts myself Karen. You are fantastic!! hugs.

~ Very rich in imagery and evoked tons of emotions and visions from my past lives ~ and from this one!

Another fine example of your ample poetic talent!

Serenity,

You managed to capture the essence of what it must of been like very well, I do believe. I enjoyed this very much!
