This is the time of year When some of us get the notion of flight Blown into our heads by March winds And so, we set about constructing Our flying machines From paper and cloth Sticks, wire, ribbon and string Sending them aloft To sing spring songs in the language of semaphore So that picnicking Seraphim in heavenly punts Can look down into the lake of our sky To watch our kites write poems in looping cursive And read the calligraphy they etch upon the bellies Of clouds And will, on occasion Reward a favored author by reaching down To touch his tether Setting him free "In looking Northward, I see a light" [This message has been edited by wranx (03-09-2004 07:05 AM).] |

Ed...To fly a kite, is to reach further and to play with the wind, is a wonder. Loved this! |

Ya know, I've always liked kites. Had the same one for years and I flew it often. Then finally I lost it in a literal field of thorns. A friend and I drove his car halfway into it, trying to rescue the kite but with no luck. I finally replaced it today. Gotta make some use of these cornfields... |

I'm feasting on the words of gentle men tonight, yeti. "To watch our kites write poems in looping cursive And read the calligraphy they etch upon the bellies Of clouds" smile. I find myself remembering lying on my back, watching the drama of the sky changing, and yanno? There's not a bit of fear in me as I do. Now that's amazing. |

Yes, they do reach down sometimes and the feeling is indescribable. Some wonderful metaphors in this piece. Eric |

Ahhh you're flying high dear. Excellent as usual M Beauty of the world which is soon to perish has two edges, one of laughter and one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder. |

Wranx, Your title got my attention because I've always pictured myself as string on a kite, sometimes sagging, sometimes tight. I really identified with this write. You have wonderful perspective and imaging. Enjoyed the excellence! Sadelite |
