Only hunger my friend, I see
In your death-red eyes
Anger? no dear kin, just worry
Apprehension, without foul goals,
Knowing starvation will mean your end
If the forest store is closed.
*
Will your vision catch the movement of a whisker
The eye-pawed itch, the whisper hint
Of forgetfulness that signals death for one
And life yet for the other?
*
The crunch of bones
Are salvation sounds, bringing drools
A mixture of blood and spit,
That work to stifle your stomach growls.
You do not know your prey is dead,
Nor remember its groans.
*
Some, of a different species
See evil in your lack of remorse,
But they let others do their slaughter.
Like you they kill to survive,
Though death, they never witness..
*
In a supermarket far away,
A human pokes at boneless chicken
Through a clean saran wrapper;
Never seeing red or feeling
Adrenalin rush through their veins,
As life fades from the eyes of their supper.

Raw truth here, my friend.  Nature is not always kind, and survival is however we can feed the hunger.  Who is to say, which is more civilized?

(big angel hugs) I understand the notion that it s just nature's way, though I also wish we wouldn't have to prey on one another and we can all just share a nice cup of gazpacho together! (sigh) You describe nature so well, God Bless You, I'll likely become a vegearian at some point soon, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ford, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Love those "smiles and hugs"
Thanks for reading

"Raw truth" ahhh yes...but kindness is relevant...the wolf must eat as and does not kill in cold blood like some other species..
and is not angry as I stated ..it is just hungry...love your comment..thanks

Two "wows" in one day....wow!
I did not won't to get gross with the images, the challenge in a poem like this is to get the point across without doing that, to ride the edge of reality, but not sensationalize with an overabundance of violent phrasing..I hope I did not do that here..Thank you

Thank you ...A point that would make me turn to vegetarianism is more slanted towards the way that farm animals (especially on corporate farms) are treated...horrible conditions,  many times, are what the beasts that we call "livestock" are forced to live in.But I must say that I believe that we are here to serve each other..although that service has been disfigured by profit ...The rabbit gives itself to the wolf and the wolf is thankful...always says grace before its meal, one life form moving into another is a solemn ritual, at one time humans knew this...the carrot is alive when you eat it and should also be respected....I am rambling, sorry....thank you for reading and the comment
