Lord, you there?

It came to me the other night as I was driving home
Along the tar strips that jounce me
From stiff springed old steed I mount for the ride
That I hadn’t touched base with you lately
Other than to pass a word along about some friend
Or deserving soul you might want to look in on
As I found them in need of more than I could answer
Or they just needed someone to hold on to for a while
As they journeyed over the rough spots in life.

I got to thinking about you and I
And how our relationship hasn’t been what you’d call formal
Or at times on my part even civil…
Hell, I don’t even know if you are there
Or if you are if you are listening
So it gets complicated pretty quickly between you and I.

Anyway, I was pondering the colors of a sunset
And wondering how to describe the hues and glow
That lay on clouds in a wash of water colored intensity
Changing in form from Monet to Picasso
As the sun slid to a slow rest
And thought of you and maybe I should offer again to buy
The next round you know
If you’ll meet me at Johnny’s come tomorrow night
We could talk over this whole Iraq thing
Maybe you could give me some insight
Into the way we forget to love
Forget to enjoy the simple things along the way
And why we seem to want to play as hard as we work
Always in besting mode it seems..

Always falling short of dreams…

So, Lord,
You in town tomorrow
I’ll be at Johnny’s after 5
Corner table and in the blue sweater

By the way..
Could you bring a bit of warm with you

Johnny’s gets cold this time of year.

smiling wide.

Open Invitation?

(and I happen to be a professional guest, too)

But lor, lord, lordy...

you remind me of my Dad.

He raged quietly too, but his whispers had such impact.

Just like you, Jeremiad Jentle.

(and Johnny's, huh? grin..."

"Hi, My name's Karen and I'll be your waitress this evening..."

loved this you.

I may have to slip into that spare chair over there, next to that puppy dog that chews slippers.
Love the intimate way you converse with el capitain.

Ron, this was fantastic.  I've had conversations like this with The Lord.  May I join the two of you at Johnny's?  I'd love to buy a few rounds for both of you.

believe in what your heart feels...

Thanks to all of you for the replies...and Johnny's is open around noon, if anyone wants to get an early start on the waiting...

I was once told these "rants" were disrespectful and arrogant... and that my presuming to talk to God in this way something wrong.... so I was a bit reluctant to post this, out of fear I might indeed offend others or make them think I was making fun of their own beliefs. Then I rememebred in the same conversation, I was "told" "you wouldn't talk to the President this way" and I replied.. of course I would... and with that thought in mind, I posted it, knowing yes... were I to sit across from God or Jesus Christ, or anyone... my delivery would be the same.. no disrespect intended.. no malice.. simply a lot of questions and a lack of understandingon my part as the total plan for it all....

thanks again...

howver you talk to god..or to whomever or whatever you believe in.. may you find answers and peace..

My personal opinion on that is that God wants us to be us...speaking to Him from the heart has much more impact that just saying words we do no feel...I felt this wonderful poem/prayer and loved every word....from the heart you have written it and I am sure He hears it that way....Thank you so much for a wonderful read....

Pardon this interruption, Cap.

For those who don't know, the challenge was to write a "Jeremiad."

\Jer`e*mi"ad\, Jeremiade \Jer`e*mi"ade\, n. [From Jeremiah, the prophet: cf. F. j['e]r['e]miade.] A tale of sorrow, disappointment, or complaint; a doleful story; a dolorous tirade; a long and mournful complaint; -- very often used satirically.

And just for the record,  I think it most arrogant to assume that one can hide the contents of one's heart from an all-knowing "God". The challenge was issued with the intent of catharsis--not disrespect. There are many examples of Jeremiads, and they are everywhere, but the most eloquent, I believe, may be found in The Bible. From Jeremiah to Jesus, who asked upon the cross, "My God, My God, Why hast thou forsaken me?"

Smile. I think the plea of Jesus from the cross pretty much sums it up. All Jeremiads essentially boil down to that thought. So I think you're in pretty good company.

Hugs you, and thanks for giving me the opportunity to clear the air. I felt fairly maligned and misunderstood about the intention of the challenge. (But then again, "maligned and misunderstood"? smile--if you read the scriptures, then I am in pretty good company too.)

Hey Cpat, is there a spare chair for me?

Enjoyed this very much.
