My Greatest Fear

Give her my greetings when you meet
and when you see her mellow smile
but please, no words or news of me
in loosely gossiped heartthrob style.
Don't sell my nice, don't bare my fears,
don't state uncovered thoughts I spoke
or mirthy tales of lover's cheer -
that's not the way I see my hopes
That's not the way that she should hear.
my heart fills up with her in mind
Someday I'll take down the tent
where I store my dreams of her so clear
and I'll tell her of the time I've spent
wishing I could hold her near
But the space outside is my lament;
when I consider how my tongue is bent
with her response my greatest fear.

Well, look who I see...
the poet himself.
I so enjoy your work, Eric...
nice to finally "meet" you!

Eric, this was a really well-written, lovely poem, and I especially liked your metalphors.
