The Years Of Us Been walking back through the years of us, picking up pieces of you here and there, pieces I’d somehow missed,or forgotten, as birthdays came and went. They weren’t from yesterday, or the day before, but they could have been – they were you, and I, us, when our love was young, later as it matured, then old for you,not I, never old for me. But somehow you’d lost touch with the truth it was, and leaving was the only thing you wanted to do. So I'm finding pieces of you, memories I’ve revived as I try to grasp the reality of a me, and a you – not us, two, not one, as it had always been, since first my soul breathed you in . . . Been locked behind the door of you, walking in the past, living life already lived, a rerun whose ending I know by heart, an ending where I cry, and I cry, in a cycle of despondency only I can break, but am unwilling to do. Because I loved you, and I don’t want it to end. Been walking through the past of us, and as scared as I am, I’m going to walk out the door that was you, close it behind me,never look back. . . Someday. Someday, when I’ve cried my soul free of you... when I've found all the pieces I’ve forgotten or missed, when I've revived all the years - the years of Us. w. james beard, (c) february 2004 (not about me) |

I have picked up many a book of poetry...and I cannot help but think..."this is about the poet"... but in reading more and more, I have learned that a poet... watches listens empathizes relates explores tells of what they see... not about you? OK. It's a thing called life. Well done, Sir. |

Thank you Karilea and Chris...if it weren't for people like you what others write would mean nothing. I'm always grateful for your read and comments... jwesley [This message has been edited by jwesley (02-25-2004 09:31 PM).] |

I liked this so much... even more knowing it's not yours... for to capture feelings so real requires an amazing empathy. *S* |

This has your deep warmth coming through in every line.. I love it when you write like this.. And yes we poets do learn from reading others and write not just about ourselves. Well done and much enjoyed! Hugs~

You have captured those feelings so well. Tears welled in my eyes as I read your words. Your talent and empathetic heart are very evident with this write. Love & Light, EA |
