One gift

2 dreams

Seperated

Better for Bride
than broken
said she

On Mother's Mantle
My Millenium's Faith
belongs in my home

once again

to shine
awaiting a toast

Irish Crystal
Etched Sunshine
Sparkles
Somewhere

Seperated by fears
and tears
to fill two flutes
with joy

With her father's permission
The match made

They would say,
cheers
"To Life!"
"To Life!"
L'CHAIM!!
(pronounced L-khyme)

One Broken
One kept to shine!

Mazal Tav!

Yes, a lovely poem, so much tradition woven into this one.

the segment with "than" is a bit confusing to me, for than means a comparison...I'm wondering if you mean "then" I guess it could be a comparison that the crystal is better to be given for a bride than to be broken, I just want to be sure because it could be better for a bride, then broken as in the traditional ending to the ceremony when something is broken on the floor by the feet of the "groom" I think...my memory of the scenes in movies is blurry

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

I actually have attended one Jewish wedding and One Barmitzvah (sp?) I like the way you relate the traditions here. Great imagery.

ok ... so i had to go looking for your work....i'm intrigued.
i like what you wrote here, but i don't think i'm seeing it as the others are.

to me, the voice of the piece is crushed and aching..

but perhaps that's just my frame of mind today. either way i like it.
