On reading Coleman Barks’ translation of Rumi’s
“The Glance Songs of Soul-Meeting”

Who am I,
this wretched wanderer
without destination?

A seeker,
I could give you some other name,
as I have many,
but what would that tell you?

There is another arc in the circle,
I am one
I am many
I am none.

Pause a moment . . .
Look into my eyes,
see if you are there.
