Today is Valentine's Day. Again, you will be spending this special holiday for lovers with your wife. She will act surprised when you hand her the dozen long stemmed roses, just as she does every year. You will hand her the card that says, “For My Loving Wife”. and she will give you a gentle peck on the cheek. Later that evening, you will go to a small and intimate restaurant that you have favored for years. The waiter will have a very expensive bottle of wine chilled and waiting for you at a quiet corner table. As you sit and look at each other in the soft candlelight, you will talk about your children and everyday events. She will laugh at your jokes that she has already heard a thousand times and will overlook your somewhat lazy manners. Your children are now on their own so when you return home, all will be quiet and you will be alone. Having shopped that afternoon, your wife will take out a fancy bag from Victoria’s Secret. You will be pleased to see the ruby red nightgown that falls from the white tissue. Sharing a bath, the warm bubbled water will help the wine make you very mellow. You will head for the bedroom and spend the rest of the evening making love, love that has been months in coming. You will drift off to sleep with your wife at your side, and you will dream the dream you have each and every night. You will dream of me. Today she will have your flowers, your card, your presence, your history, your touch and your kisses, but only half your heart. * I wrote this after listening to a song by Reba McIntire called "Does He Love You?". Youngatheart--- I understand how life is like this sometimes, and who is to say who has the most love? Maybe both do. Well written and enjoyed! |

Martie,I am honored that you read my poem. You may be right...there may be enough love for both of them. |

I think it is unfair to both women. Men seem to always hold the cards. |

Youngatheart, this is a very good poem. It told life the way it is so often this days. I also think it's sad for both women. ![]() Hugs, ![]() Ethel |
