I had a best friend
but now to the world he is lost,
he is buried deep in some grave
where his coffin was tossed.

I can no longer look
and see his beautiful face,
I guess in his eyes
he felt like a disgrace.

I wish I could have seen him
and told him to sit,
just to talk to him
and help him get through it.

But Once you make that decision
there is no turning back,
and that my friend
is a very sad fact.

Now all that we have
is the memories left behind,
we remember his face
and how his smile shined.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

This is a very moving and heartfelt piece of work. Well done!  It is so true, "if only" for they leave behind so many friends who did care enough that might have helped.  Sorry to hear of anyone losing a friend this way.

If this is true to life, I am sorry for your loss. The 'what ifs' always hurt, but I think that your friend wouldn't want you to blame yourself. A beautiful tribute.

thanx for your comments everyone and in case you were wondering yes this is a true story.  My best friend committed suicide on september 18th 2002.  His name was Patrick Buchanan and I write lots of poems about it to express how I'm feeling and to help me deal with it.
