"do you ever think about
the stars?" she asks.
"we are all so small"
he thinks and watches her with
curious eyes and says
carefully
"maybe two inches really do
not matter at all".
such wise words from
the short boy who is
stealing her heart.

they sit in the cold,
in the seclusion of night.
"can i hold your hand?"
he asks and
she looks at him,
suddenly not so small,
and slowly gives him
her everything.
"you are what i have
been waiting for."

as time passes his eyes
darken
and their sincerity disappears.
he is in a helpless sort of pain
"maybe it would be easier
so much easier
if we were just friends," he whispers.
she complies and gives him
her sweatshirt
as her world crashes.
it is cold outside after all.
