*I went back and combined two short poems into this one . . .* Dying on the inside, smiling on the outside. Have you ever spent every moment of every day hoping it'll be the last? I have. What you would you say if I told you I cry myself to sleep each and every night for a week? Have you been afraid to look people in the eyes because you're afraid that they'll see through you? I have. Would you believe I mask my emptiness in a smile? Have you ever lost sleep over why you'll never be good enough? I have. Would you laugh if what you dismiss is really chronic insomnia, constant tossing and turning, when sleep never comes . . . ? Have you ever looked in the mirror and see nothing but pain reflected? I have. Could you look in my eyes when I tell you I feel so alone, and no one knows, that sometimes I feel my only friend is my pain? Will you ever understand that I’m . . . Dying on the inside, barely alive on the outside . . . Life is a moderately good play w/ a badly written thrid act. - Unknown |
