At the Cemetery What spires rise up to where the unknown looms! But a church, where the living greet the dead, Is this silent guardian of the tombs. And here the marble faces can be read On rows of headstones grey; stand attention, As some half-reclining knights claim denial Of own inconstancy; in contention For the glory of the final trial. But the chiseled, naked letters follow Paths no longer polished, as they trace The gritty tears of sand and sorrow, That fade the name from the marble face: For the grinding wheel of Time effaces bone Of Man as merrily as hardened stone. CG You never cease to amaze me. I was surprised to see one of your poems in here after reading your wonderful romantic poems in Open. Thank you for sharing your immense talent. Take care.........Sue I am in motion |

Thank you, Sue, for the words of appreciation. Frankly, I was not sure if I should post this kind of a poem in Open, or here - then decided for here, even though it gets lets traffic. I write in different styles of poetry, even though the Love/Romance type of poems are my favorite. At the least, they appear to attract fair number of responses. Thank you again, Sue. CG |
