When you think of a ghetto, You see a black kid, Getting high on dope, You see an 18-year girl, With a carriage by her side, Waiting for the bus ride, When you think of a ghetto, You picture loud music, And people up to no good, What you don’t see in a ghetto, A mother coming home from work Making ends meet being a clerk, A child struggling to stay free, Not letting drugs get to him, Having million and one dreams, So don’t make a judgment, Don’t be quick to assume, The next time you say ghetto, Think of the positive it contains, Know that the stars shine just as bright, Even when it is in a ghetto. |

this is amazing.... its a look into a ghetto that is rarely written about...... most poetry ive ever read about ghettos is negative and shows no hope.... this is a ray of light in a darkened world.... keep up the writing... Mel so this is me but what do you care about that???? |

I agree. This is really good. Not what I expected - but it was a pleasant surprise. "I'm just me, trapped in a body." |
