A young man, barely 18, was walking through the mall. He was unsure about his future
or his career. He walked around window shopping, like any teenager would do in a mall,
just to see what he wished he could have. He came across this office. A sign hanging
above the door read "US Army". He became quite curious and decided to enter the office.
After talking to the soldier behind the desk, he decided that a career in the military
would help him get on the right track. He enrolled without hesitation.

After going through rigorous basic training, he found out he was deploying as an
infantryman. Mixed emotions filled him as his trip began. Upon arrival he
received his assignment; he would patrol the streets inside a humvee. Weeks go by and
everything seemed normal. No guns blazing. No evacuations. Just normal life for everyone
around him. On patrol on a Wednesday afternoon he notices a strange truck with a canvas
on the bed of it. No one paid any attention to it.

As the humvee inched by the truck, a loud explosion rang. The humvee was knocked on its
side. Inside, disorientation filled the truck. As he came to, he realized that his buddy
that he went through boot camp with was killed from the explosion. Immediately he broke
down. As he tried to reach to him to attempt first aid, he realized that he could not move.
He has been seriously wounded. A cry of despair turned into screams as he saw that both
his legs are gone.

After months of recuperation, he is sent home. His mind scarred of the tragedies of this
war. As he sits at home in his wheelchair, he watches the news as people protest the
war and it's causes. He watches as news reporters dismantle and reconfigure the
image of the military into something that feeds the protesting public. Little do they
know that those who have died were not forced to join, nor were they asked to. Every
last one of them volunteered their lives to fight for their country. Some,
unfortunately, made the ultimate sacrifice.
