Ah, Depression A treacherously familiar friend I feel you are back again. Stalking, slinking, slowly prowling Enthralling, alluring, Pulling me in Your efforts to drag me in Are wearing me down --- Silently your haunting figure shadows me Constantly sending me to cowering Do you care, do you see The pain you inflict in me? Continuously closer you skulk There is no place left to hide For you know my innermost thoughts and fears And yet, none of which to you I did confide --- Now your eyes, So wickedly familiar And yet achingly hollow Flat and dull relentlessly they follow I turn in righteous indignation To confront you To forestall you But my words turn to sand Slipping through my mind Lost in the eye of despair Some sanity remains A trace of defiance is left But my demands are now pleas Weaker and weaker, they dissolve Melting in the wave of despair. One last time at resistance I will try Before I fall into your awful embrace. Though my attempts may be weak Your presence I must attempt to defy. My resolve weakens My heart, Shattered and swept away, Offers no refuge From your cruel eyes, which do beckon And the void of your eyes So empty, yet strangely Mesmerizing, Terrifyingly Drag at me I turn in fear To flee Not to confront To hide Not to forestall All in the vain hope to Escape. |
