it wasn’t quite by accident the little cape cod on murphy’s hill in watertown burned down in 1968. it was more like the misadventure of adding accelerants to glowing coals in a brazier. the burning bed, smoldering sheets in blacks and blues, the gas turned up to desperate measures, the oven a maw gaping and waiting. the hearth cold embers he stirred to flame again and again with bludgeoning poker until the misadventure when the kerosene rag flew out of her trembling hand. the doors are gone, windows shattered in that little cape cod where darkness still smolders on the interior and creeps over murphy's hill. r/d [This message has been edited by JenniferMaxwell (10-07-2007 09:56 PM).] |
